Data Tab Test Connection fails with 0x80005000 error

    Description: When editing the connection settings in the Data Tab, the test connection fails with Unknown Error 0x80005000

    Attempting to login gives "Invalid User"

    Cause: The LDAP connection string is invalid


    Resolution:

    Correct the LDAP Connection String.

    Here is a list of valid formats

    1. To talk to a DC, use the Format

    LDAP://servername.domain.com/dc=domain,dc=com

    2. To talk to any DC in the domain, use the format

    LDAP://domain.com/dc=domain,dc=com

    3. To talk to the Global Catalog server, use the Format

    GC://servername.domain.com/dc=domain,dc=com
