'This security key doesn't look familiar' error is thrown when using a Yubikey for MFA

Follow
    Applies to:
  • SecureAuth Identity Platform
Deployment model:
  • Cloud
  • Hybrid
  • Version Affected:  9.x+

    Description:

After enrolling a Yubikey, and attempting to use it as an MFA option, the error 'This security key doesn't look familiar' may be displayed

    Cause:

This can be due to a difference in Hostname/URL used to register the Yubikey compared to the Hostname/URL of the Realm where the Yubikey is used as the MFA option

    Enrollment Realm Example - https://company.domain.com/SecureAuthxx

Realm with Yubikey MFA option - https://alias-for-my-company.domainA.com/SecureAuthxx

    Resolution:

Retry the Yubikey enrollment again but this time using a Hostname/URL which matches the Realms the key will be used for as an MFA option
