Mobile devices get stuck on the "Checking browser credential" screen

Description:

When users authenticate on mobile devices they get stuck on this screen saying:

"Verifying credentials is in progress"

 

Other mobile browsers may still get stuck but display an error about not being able to get to a location using a custom URL scheme of secureauth:/

 

Cause:

The Device Recognition mode for fingerprinting mobile devices is set to App mode on the Workflow tab instead of Cookie mode and the SecureAuth mobile fingerprinting app is not installed:

 

Historically SecureAuth provided a fingerprinting app (not the Authenticate app) that users could install on their smartphone, the sole purpose of which was to respond to the custom URL scheme of secureauth:/ and return a fingerprint back to the realm.  However that app is no longer available and is not recommended for use either.  


Resolution: 

Current best practise is to use Cookie mode instead of App mode.

Set the FP mode: drop down to use Cookie:
