Appliance Freezing or Unresponsive Intermittently

    Description: The performance of the underlying server OS on which the IdP sits begins to degrade until it becomes completely unresponsive.  When viewing from vSphere, the vmware tools (if installed) shows "Not responding".  Attempts to connect to the IdP fails, and when viewing Task Manager and Resource Monitory, you see various Memory and Disk spikes in utilization.


    Cause: If Disk Defragmentation is logging errors in the System Log, it is likely causing the IIS Worker process to go into an infinite loop.  Once that happens, even a "iisreset" will not be able to reset the IIS Worker process.


    Resolution: Turn off the Disk Defrag scheduled task within the Windows Task Scheduler.
