Overview
When restoring from a backup with the SA Backup Tool, the restore fails and the window closes without a message. Running the tool from an admin command prompt instead shows the error: "The syntax of the command is incorrect."
Cause
The password used with the SA Backup Tool contains an unsupported character.
Resolution / Workaround
When creating a backup with the SA Backup Tool, only use special characters from this supported list: [@#$%*()+?]. Note that ! is not in this list.
- Start the SA Backup Tool as Administrator.
- Set a new password that does not use !.
- Use this password to perform the restore.
Special Considerations
The backup and restore tool is most often used for migrations, when both servers are available. If you cannot create a new backup because the original server is down, raise a case with SecureAuth Support.
