How To: Change the Login Failure Error Message Verbiage

    Overview

    The error text shown when a user enters an invalid username or password can be changed through the realm's Content and Localization editor. The general procedure is the same for every message; only the specific variable name differs.

    General Procedure: Find and Change a Verbiage Variable

    1. Open the Admin Console and go to the realm's Overview tab.
    2. Click Content and Localization.
    3. Use Find (Ctrl+F) to search for the variable name (see the examples below for which variable to search for).
    4. Update the value to the text you want shown.
    5. Click Save.

     

    Example 1: "Invalid User"

    Variable: useridview_incorrectuser
    Default text: Invalid User

    Shown when a user enters a username that isn't recognized.


     

    Example 2: "Invalid User Id or Password"

    Variable: useridview_incorrectuserpassword
    Default text: Invalid User Id or Password

    Shown on a realm using a Username & Password or Username & Password | MFA workflow, where the username and password are entered together on one page.


     

    Example 3: "Password Does Not Match"

    Variable: passwordview_errmessage
    Default text: Password does not match

    Shown on a realm using a Username | Password or Username | MFA | Password workflow, where the password is entered on its own separate page after the username.
