    Overview

When troubleshooting, it's sometimes necessary to know which browser was used for a particular request to IdP. This article explains how to find that information.

Find the Browser Used for a Request

    1. Enable audit logging on the realm's Logs tab.
    2. Open the audit log, found at D:\SecureAuth\SecureAuthXX\AuditLogs (where XX is the realm number).
    3. Look for the user agent string the browser supplied to IdP — the browser information is recorded there.

Internet Explorer identifies itself as Trident, the name of its browser engine, rather than as "Internet Explorer." For example:

    • IE 11 on Windows 8.1: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko
    • IE 11 on Windows 8.1, in IE 7 Compatibility View: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; Trident/7.0; .NET4.0E; .NET4.0C)

Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers each have their own identifiers. A site such as browscap.org's user agent lookup tool can translate a user agent string into something more human-readable.
