Troubleshooting: L4W Stops Prompting for MFA After Reboot When McAfee Drive Encryption Is Installed

Version Affected: SecureAuth IdP 9.2 and later; Login for Windows (L4W) 1.0.4 and later
 
 

Overview

After installing Login for Windows (L4W), the user isn't prompted for multi-factor authentication (MFA) at the initial login screen following a restart. L4W only prompts for MFA when resuming from a locked state.

Cause

McAfee Drive Encryption has been known to interfere with L4W in some cases, taking precedence as the credential provider when it's installed before L4W.

Resolution:

Uninstall McAfee Drive Encryption and reboot to confirm L4W is working correctly, then reinstall McAfee Drive Encryption and restart to confirm L4W still prompts for MFA.
