    Overview

The FileSync Service installer stalls during setup, hanging at the "Create FileSync Service" step.

    Cause

The setup script is supposed to stop two services during installation: World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC) and Server (LanmanServer). If the installer fails to stop these services, it interferes with the installation of the FileSync service.

    To resolve this:

    1. Stop the FileSync setup script.
    2. Run Services.msc.
    3. Find the following two services under the Name column:
    • Server (LanmanServer)
    • World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC)
    1. If either service is running, stop it and set its Startup type to Disabled.
    2. Run the FileSync Service setup script again.
    3. Once the FileSync Service setup finishes, set the Startup type of both services back to Automatic and start them again.
