Overview

The System Info tab's Plugin Info section lists several Java Runtime Environment (JRE) versions, as shown below. This article explains what these entries mean and whether Java is required on Identity Platform (IdP) itself.

Answer

These entries relate to a seldom-used feature: Java certificates. If Java certificates are being used, the JRE version entries specify which version of Java to look for on client workstations. If a matching version is found, the corresponding Java applet version is used — for example, if the client has Java 7 installed, applet version 1.7.4.3 is used, or if an older Java version is installed, applet version 1.5.4.2 is used instead.

These version numbers only relate to which Java versions IdP checks for on client workstations. They do not indicate what version of Java, if any, is installed on the IdP server itself, and do not mean Java is required on the IdP. If Java certificates are not in use, these settings can be disregarded.
