How To: Restore a web.config Backup

Overview

By default, SecureAuth IdP saves a backup of a realm's web.config file whenever changes are made to that realm's configuration. If a configuration change produces an undesired result, this article explains how to restore a previous backup.

Restore a web.config Backup

1. Web.config backups are stored in D:\Secureauth\SecureAuthXX\ConfigBackup (where XX is the realm number). Sort the files by date to find the backup from the point in time you want to restore.
2. Copy the backup file you want to restore, then paste it into the realm's own folder (one level up from ConfigBackup) — for example, D:\Secureauth\SecureAuth13.
3. In the realm's folder, rename the current web.config file to old.config. This is safer than deleting it outright. Confirm any prompts that appear.
4. Rename the backup file you copied in step 2 to web.config. This restores the backup as the realm's active configuration.
